Aphrodite is the ancient Greek goddess of beauty, pleasure, lust, love, and passion. In Roman history she is called Venus and represents desire, fertility, and victory.
Legend says she was born from sea foam, fully grown. The gods were amazed by her beauty that they stopped to stare as she arose from the waves near Cyprus.
Aphrodite was partly responsible for beginning the Trojan war. During a divine wedding, she offered Helen of Sparta to the Trojan prince Paris. But, Helen of Sparta was already married. So, Aphrodite helped him steal her away which is what started the 10 year war between the city of Troy and the Greek Achaeans.
