The affair between Ares the god of war, and Aphrodite, the goddess of love and desire was one of Olympus’s most dramatic stories. Their union embodied the collision of polar opposites.
Though Aphrodite was married to Hephaestus, the divine blacksmith, it was Ares who consumed her. Their relationship was secret and unbound by divine law.
From their union came children who symbolized the dual nature of their bond: Eros (desire), Phobos (fear), Deimos (terror), and Harmonia (harmony), each one a fusion of love and war, reflecting the paradox of their passion.
This sculpture freezes this tension in time: the brutal force of Ares towering above, the sensual calm of Aphrodite. It represents the eternal collision between desire and dominance.
