The Napoléon statues are modeled after his iconic image crossing the Alps. It evokes the insane ambition and unwavering willpower of a man who reshaped Europe.
In 1800 during the Second Italian Campaign, Napoleon led his army across the Great S. Bernard Pass - a treacherous journey - to surprise Austrian forces in Italy. The journey was harsh and grueling that mules were used instead of warhorses. This is what inspired the image that this statue is based upon.
Napoleon won over 60 battles across Europe and was famous for his use of speed, surprise, and flexible battlefield strategy. At his peak in 1810 he controlled much of continental Europe. He divided his army into self-sufficient corps as part of his strategy and was incredibly tactical in his understanding of when to strike.

The other statue Mounted Medieval Knight is not inspired by Napoleon, but represents a general medieval knight on horseback.
